Juvenile Justice Meeting to Be Held Next Month
The Coalition for Juvenile Justice will hold its 2006 annual spring
conference May 4 to 7 in Bethesda, Md. The theme of the conference is
"What Are the Implications of Adolescent Brain Development for Juvenile
Justice?"
National experts will present promising research findings in the areas of
adolescent brain development and recent applications of such research in
juvenile-justice decision making and practice.
Among the speakers are Marilyn Benoit, M.D., past president of the American
Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry; Thomas Grisso, M.D., director of
Mental Health and Law and coordinator of the Law-Psychiatry Program at the
University of Massachusetts Medical School; Marsha Levick, J.D., co-founder
and director of the Juvenile Law Center in Philadelphia; and Lawrence
Steinberg, M.D., director of the MacArthur Foundation's Research Network on
Adolescent Development and Juvenile Justice.
A preconference "primer session" will be held May 4 in which
Aaron White, M.D., will discuss brain development and function. The annual
forum of the National Juvenile Justice Network will be held in conjunction
with the conference on May 3 and 4. Federal policy updates will be held on May
3 and May 4.
