Advice in a Nutshell
African-American women leaders at APA had this advice for other women who
are members of a minority and aspire to hold leadership positions in organized
psychiatry:
- Find a mentor.
- Find colleagues who share your professional vision.
- Develop an area of expertise.
- Never be afraid of challenges.
- Look for chances to learn new skills.
- Set realistic expectations.
- Communicate clearly about what you need and what you expect from
others.
- Be creativethink outside the box.
- Don't denigrate others.
