Molecular Targets Ranked
Scientists participating in the NIMH-sponsored MATRICS project ranked these
molecular targets as the nine most promising targets for development of
a drug to treat cognitive impairments in schizophrenia. The nine molecular
targets are implicated in seven domains of cognition: working memory,
attention/vigilance, verbal learning and memory, visual learning and memory,
speed of processing, reasoning and problem-solving, and social cognition.
- Alpha-7 nicotinic receptor agonists
- D1 receptor agonists
- AMPA glutamatergic receptor agonists
- Alpha-2 adrenergic receptor agonists
- NMDA glutamatergic receptor agonists
- Metabotropic glutamate receptor agonists
- Glycine reuptake inhibitors
- M1 muscarinic receptor agonists
- GABA-A receptor selective agonists
