IMGs Valuable Resource

Yassar Kanawati, M.D

Marietta, Ga.

I am extremely delighted to see that psychiatrists are starting to recognize the importance of the understanding of cross-cultural issues, which is one of the most important issues that we as psychiatrists need to attend to.

To better understand other cultures and thus provide better care to patients from those cultures, U.S.-born psychiatrists should seek to work and interact with international medical graduates (IMGs). IMGs are excellent resources who are able to give different perspectives of and insights into their respective cultures.
