The American Psychiatric Foundation has announced the establishment of a $1 million fundraising goal for its Annual Fund in 2004. If reached, it will mark the first time that the foundations Annual Fund has met or exceeded the $1 million level.
"We believe that with the support of the APA membership, we can reach this fundraising goal," said Foundation President Altha J. Stewart, M.D. "The Annual Fund provides the critically needed resources to fund many important programs such as the National Partnership for Workplace Mental Health and for grants that are provided to small local organizations that are carrying out innovative programs in their communities that educate people that mental illness is real and treatable."
The foundation is a charitable and educational subsidiary of APA. Contributions to the foundations Annual Fund will be used to support educational programming and grants that raise awareness of mental illness and the importance of early intervention, as well as increase access to quality mental health services. The foundation is also a supporter of the American Psychiatric Institute for Research and Education.
More information about the foundation, including how to make a tax-deductible contribution, is posted online at www.PsychFoundation.org.
