Foundation Funds Support Workplace MH Education
Michele Werner
APAs charitable arm raises funds for a partnership whose mission is to ensure that Americas workforce has access to quality mental health care.
The American Psychiatric Foundation raised nearly $8,000 at a benefit last month for the National Partnership for Workplace Mental Health in Coral Gables, Fla.
The funds came from a combination of area psychiatrists, mental health professionals, and industry representatives. The proceeds will support educational efforts focused on better understanding the benefits of a mentally healthy workforce, early recognition of mental disorders, effective treatment, and appropriate access to quality mental health care.
"The National Partnership for Workplace Mental Health provides a unique forum for businesses to explore mental health issues and to share innovative solutions," said event co-host Maria Llorente, M.D.
"I am pleased to be part of this first effort on behalf of the workplace partnership and hope that our success will encourage others to work with the foundation in hosting similar events in their communities," added event co-host Joseph Zumpano, J.D., M.P.H.
Among the partnership members are APA, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Center for Mental Health Services, Academy of Organizational and Occupational Psychiatry, and numerous companies.
In addition to event ticket sales, a number of corporations supported the event, including Florida Power and Light, GlaxoSmithKline (South Florida Office), Janssen Pharmaceutica (South Florida Office), Executive Health and Wealth, and Zumpano, Patricios, and Winker, P.A.
