APA Responds to Oxford Audits
In response to Oxford Health Plans action to collect repayment of thousands of dollars from psychiatrists and mental health professionals because of "inadequate" documentation (see page 1), APAs Office of Healthcare Systems and Financing is working with the New York State Psychiatric Association (NYSPA) to collect the facts and support the membership. On September 15 APA sent a letter to Barry Perlman, M.D., president of NYSPA, to clarify a key issue.
"We are very concerned about the scope and process of the Oxford audit, as well as the confidentiality issues inherent in this review," said Irvin L. (Sam) Muszynski, director of the the Office of Healthcare Systems and Financing. "We are formulating a formal communication to Oxford regarding their actions," he said, "but in the meantime, we are here and available to answer member questions."
