Making Community Count

About 1,460 psychiatrists and mental health professionals used the institute as an opportunity to network with colleagues from all over the country as well as around the world.

The 54th Institute on Psychiatric Services of APA, held in Chicago October 9 to 13, focused on the theme "Community Counts: Creating and Supporting Systems of Care."

Sessions ranged from in-depth symposia on treatment issues to small workshops designed to offer attendees a forum for discussion of current clinical and system-oriented topics, important in their own communities. The institute also featured a series of "Innovative Programs," which offered a wide variety of presentations on effective program interventions from around the country.

In collaboration with numerous allied organizations, the institute’s Scientific Program Committee successfully presented a diverse list of topics in different formats, directly in response to feedback from last year’s attendees.
