NAMI Presents Exemplary Psychiatrist Awards at APA’s Annual Meeting

These psychiatrists are being recognized for their extraordinary service to people with mental illness, especially in multicultural communities and with children and adolescents.

The National Alliance for the Mentally Ill (NAMI) presented its 2002 NAMI Exemplary Psychiatrists Awards to 46 psychiatrists at APA’s 2002 annual meeting in Philadelphia.

The awards honor psychiatrists who have made substantial contributions and exhibited leadership in serving people with mental illnesses, especially in multicultural communities and with children and adolescents.

"These are the doctors that have gone the extra mile in treating their patients by providing extraordinary care for often underserved populations," said NAMI Executive Director Richard Birkel. "They reflect the cutting edge of the former U.S. surgeon general’s most recent reports on mental health. They are helping our most vulnerable consumers and families to regain their lives."
