Letter to the Editor

Core Clinical Skills

S.R. Desai, M.D.

Binghamton, N.Y.

It was as though someone wrote what I have had on my mind for quite some time. It is our psychiatric colleagues who have made our profession lose some of the respect it deserves. So-called medication management has made us look like medication dispensers while our mental health allied professionals do the more serious work. Patients have told me that some psychiatrists openly admit to doing medication management only and refer them for psychotherapy elsewhere.

Thank you, Dr.Weissman, for your eloquent views.
